Want to learn AI but don’t know where to start? This thread is for you

When I first got curious about AI, I felt completely overwhelmed. Everywhere I looked, there were complicated papers, unfamiliar terms, and intimidating coding tutorials. It seemed like you had to be a math genius or a seasoned programmer to even begin. But as I dug deeper, I realized that the world of AI is far more accessible than it looks from the outside. If you're interested in learning AI but have no idea how to take that first step, I want to share what worked for me—simple, approachable ways to get started, no matter your background.
The first thing I did was try to understand the big picture—what AI actually is and why it's such a game changer. You don’t need to start with technical jargon. I began with explainer videos and beginner-friendly articles that broke down how AI works, where it's being used, and how it’s shaping industries. That context made everything feel more relevant and a lot less abstract. Once I grasped the basics—things like machine learning, neural networks, and the difference between narrow and general AI—I felt a lot more confident moving forward.
From there, I chose a learning path based on my goals. I wasn’t aiming to become a researcher overnight; I just wanted to understand how to use AI tools in everyday life and projects. For those more inclined toward coding, learning Python and exploring platforms like Coursera or Kaggle can be incredibly helpful. But even if you don’t code, there are so many no-code tools—like ChatGPT, Notion AI, and Runway—that let you explore AI hands-on. I started by simply playing around with these tools, testing prompts, and watching how they responded. That kind of experimentation taught me more than any textbook could.
Eventually, I realized that the best way to learn AI is to stay curious and stay connected. I began following AI creators, reading newsletters, and engaging with communities on Twitter and Reddit. I asked questions, shared what I was learning, and slowly started building confidence. Learning AI isn't about mastering everything at once—it's about consistent exploration.
If you’ve been putting off learning AI because it feels too big or too technical, I promise it’s more approachable than you think. Start small, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The best time to learn AI is now—and all you have to do is begin.
